Consumer Market + Virtual Stage, Samsung Micro LED Has a New Trend
CJ ENM Virtual Stage Opens, Display with Samsung "The Wall" Recently, the "CJ ENM Virtual Stage" with Samsung Micro LED display "The Wall" opened.
Samsung Electronics said the virtual stage is a high-tech studio that can achieve various types of backgrounds on the screen by decorating the entire set with a huge LED screen.
According to Samsung, the wall installed here achieves ultra-high resolution of 32 K horizontally and 4K vertically (3720 X 4320). A very large display with a diameter of 20 m, a height of 7 m and a diagonal length of 22 m is made into an oval shape, which encloses the whole studio of about 1650 square meters. The ceiling is equipped with a high-definition LED sign of about 404 square meters, and the entrance is equipped with a sliding LED screen with the same specifications as the ceiling, which supports a 360-degree video-like realistic shooting environment.
"The Wall" supports studio frame rates of 23.976Hz, 29.97Hz, 59.94Hz, etc., reducing picture tearing, easy remote management and optimized virtual content creation, such as color adjustment programs to provide solutions. Improve the perfection of video content production. Walls can be installed in modular form, so they can be installed in curved surfaces, ceilings, walls and other designs according to the size and environment of the studio. By applying special molding techniques on the surface, the scenery and disassembly are repeated, which is advantageous in a studio environment where external contamination factors such as dust are high.
Using The Wall to build a virtual studio can significantly reduce the time and cost of on-site positioning and graphic synthesis compared to existing production systems. The distance and angle of view between the subject and the camera can be automatically calculated and applied to the display in real time. "We are delighted that The Wall, with the best display technology, will be used in CJ ENM Virtual Production Stage, a future content production company," said Ha Huisheng, vice president of Samsung Electronics Visual Display Business Unit. This is another commercial project of Samsung's "The Wall" after its operation in Thailand in March, this time for virtual stage.
In fact, Samsung has recently accelerated the Micro LED process. Up to now, it has made a number of moves in production, new products and investment. The first is to speed up production. Recently, according to South Korean media ETNews, Samsung Electronics began to produce Mini LED commercial displays in its factory in Slovakia in early May 2022. Samsung initially produced Neo QLED and QLED TVs at the plant, but it decided to also produce Micro LED commercial displays there to meet growing demand, the report said.
Previously, Samsung has started manufacturing fine pitch LED screen TVs at its Vietnam facility and Micro LED commercial displays at its Mexico facility. It is worth mentioning that Samsung has previously announced that it will launch Micro LED TV in the second half of 2022, and the Vietnamese factory will be responsible for the production.
Secondly, in terms of product layout, Samsung Micro LED products have improved from performance to market coverage. In early 2022, Samsung brought narrow pitch LED display products of 110 inches, 101 inches and 89 inches at CES. At ISE 2022, in addition to showing the 2022 The Wall TV, Samsung released The Wall All In-One, covering three different specifications of 4K 146 inches, 2K 146 inches and 2K 110 inches, which will be sold worldwide after ISE 2022. Moreover, from the perspective of investment, Samsung's participation in Micro LED-related enterprises has increased, and some enterprises have made progress. In mid-February, Porotech, a British developer of porous gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor materials and provider of Micro LED technology, announced the completion of Series A financing. It is reported that this round of financing amounts to $20 million, led by Amoeba Capital, which focuses on early and growth investment in technology, followed by Samsung Venture Capital, Honghui Fund and individual investors.
On February 25, pure Micro LED concept stocks applied for listing, with Samsung as the largest shareholder, holding more than 20% of the shares. It is worth mentioning that Samsung Supply Chain said that its Micro LED TV is expected to have a large supply in July, with shipments starting at 15,000 units (12.7-inch modules) and increasing to 100,000 units (12.7-inch modules) by 2023. And Samsung reportedly plans to reduce the cost of its new 89-inch and 101-inch models by about 40%. Driven by Samsung as an internationally renowned brand, we also have reason to believe that with the advancement of technology, the speed of Micro LED from product landing to application coverage is expected to be greatly accelerated.
